There’s something about the interaction between models in a scene that excites me almost as much as the captivating beauty of what’s going on behind a subject’s eyeballs. Throw a sexy car and a hot summer in the mix and we’re basically foolproof. It feels like bloody forever ago that we shot this manic day of a campaign - starting by the sea and winding up in a hotel room, as we’re told any good dates should turn out.
We must have done something right.
In any case, this is the story of the Summer that I’m so sure I was supposed to have during Hollywood High School (where 25-year-olds play particularly well-endowed 18-year-olds), but never really did because I was a massive nerd -
and, let’s face it, nobody else really did because we all through wearing school uniforms badly and loitering around the mall cinema was far cooler than, say, road-tripping down the coast with sticky hands from excessive roadside fruit stall produce consumption and the Best Spotify Playlist Ever. Or waking up in perfect make-up from the night before, in a perfect fluffy white hotel bed. If I’m honest, if someone asked me now what I’d like to do over Summer, I’d probably still (reflexively) blurt out those same two teenage dreams, alongside long hot days spent surfing and inhaling coconuts, followed by cicada-serenaded late nights discussing burning life questions with best mates under a canopy of bedsheets and fairy lights, sworn to secrecy from
prying eyes.
Of course, this won’t happen. Tumblr isn’t real life.
Indeed, neither wilting in the library between intermittent sushi breaks nor hunched over one’s laptop trying to smash out deliverables are terribly photogenic. Nobody wants to see crazed selfies of my under-eyes during exam time, during which I most certainly do not wake up like Bec and Nicol do in this perfect Summer story.
So for now, I’ll just build fantasy lands through creative directing shoe campaigns.
